The Difference Between UVA-340,UVB-313 and UVA-351 in UV Aging Test Chamber

Jun 24, 2021

Polymer UV aging test is a common aging test for rubber and plastic products. In addition to UV aging and sunlight aging, there are also temperature aging and loading aging. UV aging test is also called ultraviolet aging test, which uses ultraviolet light that resembles sunlight to perform aging light test on materials.

UV refers to the ultraviolet light in sunlight. Because its light energy is equivalent to the bond energy of the polymer chemical bond, it can cause the break of the polymer compound chain, which is the main cause of the degradation and degradation of polymer materials.

The main key test component used for UV aging test is UV lamp tube. Generally, UV lamp tube can be divided into UVA and UVB.

UVA-340 lamp tube: UVA-340 lamp tube can mimic the short-wave ultraviolet light in sunlight very well, that is, the wavelength range from 365 nanometers to the cut-off point of sunlight 295 nanometers.

UV Test Chamber3

UVA-351 tube: imitating the sunlight and ultraviolet light passing through the window glass, it is the most effective for testing the aging of indoor materials.

UV Test ChamberUVB-313 tube: The short-wave ultraviolet light emitted by the UVB-313 tube is stronger than the sun's ultraviolet rays that generally illuminate the surface of the earth, which can accelerate the aging of the material to the greatest extent. However, the lamp may cause unrealistic damage to some materials. UVB-313 tubes are mainly used for quality control and research and development, or for testing materials with strong weather resistance.

The purpose of different types of UV lamps(UV Aging Weathering Apparatus)

■UVA-340: It resembles the ultraviolet part of sunlight, mainly used for photo-aging testing of outdoor products.

■UVB-313: It is widely used in fast and economical testing of durable materials, which will accelerate the aging of materials.

■UVA-351: Used to simulate the ultraviolet part of sunlight passing through window glass, mainly used indoors.

Highlight 1: High-Accuracy and Consistent UV Exposure

Equipped with eight 40W fluorescent UV lamps, the system delivers strong, uniform, and stable ultraviolet output. Each lamp maintains spectral consistency throughout its long service life (up to 5000 hours), ensuring repeatable test results. The adjustable irradiance range of 0.3–20 W/m² enables precise UV intensity control that conforms to ASTM G154 and similar test requirements.

Highlight 2: Comprehensive Environmental Weathering Simulation

The tester combines UV radiation with controlled condensation, elevated temperature, high humidity, and water spray to recreate complex outdoor ageing conditions. Users can achieve accurate settings from ambient to 90°C, maintain humidity above 95% RH, and utilize a uniform spray system with 10 nozzles. This multi-factor exposure accelerates degradation while mimicking realistic service environments.

Highlight 3: Accurate Outdoor-Equivalent Test Conditions

Real-time Black Panel Temperature (BPT) monitoring provides an accurate measurement of surface temperature on specimens, ensuring reliable simulation of outdoor thermal conditions. Paired with a UV irradiance radiometer, the device guarantees compliance with required UV intensity levels. With 52 standard sample holders and optional 3D fixtures, it supports a wide range of materials, sizes, and product shapes.

Highlight 4: Advanced PID Touchscreen Control System

The intelligent touchscreen controller offers up to 120 programmable test profiles, each with 100 customizable segments, allowing detailed and flexible test design. Multiple connectivity options-USB, LAN, and RS232-support easy data transfer and remote supervision. An integrated alarm system and multilingual interface enhance usability and operational safety.
