In modern materials research and development and industrial quality control processes, corrosion performance evaluation is a critical step in ensuring product durability and reliability.
The LIB salt spray corrosion test chamber strictly adheres to the ASTM G85 standard and its cycle and SO₂ test procedures, precisely controlling the solution, pH, temperature, humidity, and spray to achieve repeatable and traceable corrosion testing. It is suitable for the research, development, production, and certification of metals, coatings, and composite materials.
【Standards Compliance ASTM G85 (SS, ASS, CASS) and Test Solution, pH, Temperature, and Spray Conditions】
LIB Salt Fog Corrosion Test Chambers fully comply with ASTM G85 procedures, covering SS (Salt Spray), ASS (Acetic Acid Salt Spray), CASS (Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid Salt Spray), and additional cyclic or SO₂ exposure tests. Each test type follows strict solution preparation, temperature, humidity, and spray conditions:
A1: Acetic Acid Salt Spray (ASS)
Salt solution: 5% NaCl, pH adjusted to 3.1–3.3 using glacial acetic acid.
Saturator tower: 47 ± 1 °C.
Chamber exposure zone: 35 ± 2 °C.
Deposition rate: 1–2 mL/80 cm²·h.
Notes: Typical test duration 16–240 h for evaluating decorative chromium plating or zinc die-cast coatings.
A2: Cyclic Acidified Salt Fog (Cyclic ASS)
Salt solution: 5% NaCl, pH adjusted to 2.8–3.0.
Saturator tower: 57 ± 1 °C.
Chamber exposure zone: 49 ± 2 °C, wet-bottom conditions recommended.
Cycle: 6-h repetitive cycles of ¾-h spray, 2-h dry air purge, 3¼-h high humidity soak.
Fog purging: Reduces relative humidity from 40% to 7%, promoting white corrosion products for accurate observations.
A3: Acidified Synthetic Sea Water (Fog)
Salt solution: Synthetic sea salt with 10 mL/L glacial acetic acid, pH 2.8–3.0.
Saturator tower: 47 ± 1 °C (chamber 35 °C) or 57 ± 1 °C (chamber 49 °C).
Chamber exposure: 24–35 °C for organics; 49 °C recommended for 2000, 5000, 7000-series aluminum alloys.
Cycle: 30-min spray followed by 90-min soak at >98% RH.
A4: Salt/SO₂ Spray (Fog)
Salt solution: 5% NaCl or synthetic sea salt, pH controlled 2.5–3.2.
Saturator tower: 47 ± 1 °C.
Chamber exposure: 35 ± 2 °C.
SO₂ introduction: 1 cm³/min·ft³ of cabinet volume with uniform dispersion.
Cycles: Configurable, e.g., 1-h SO₂ introduction 4×/day or ½-h spray/½-h SO₂/2-h soak.
A5: Dilute Electrolyte Cyclic Fog/Dry Test
Electrolyte solution: 0.05% NaCl + 0.35% (NH₄)₂SO₄.
Fog at room temperature, dry-off at 35 ± 1.5 °C.
Cycle: 1-h fog followed by 1-h dry-off, ambient RH ≤75%.
Notes: Suitable for paint coatings on steel and thin-film evaluation.
With precise control of pH, deposition rate, temperature, and humidity, LIB chambers allow accelerated yet comparable corrosion testing. This ensures repeatable, traceable, and meaningful results for R&D, quality control, and certification across coatings, metals, and specialty materials.

Basic Salt Spray Chamber: Ideal for routine batch inspections, these chambers maintain 35 ± 2°C with ±2°C temperature accuracy and 95–98% RH. Using a single spray tower and quartz nozzles, the deposition rate is controlled at 1–2 mL/80 cm²·h. Applications include metal parts, electrical enclosures, plastics, and standard coating assessments.
Cyclic Salt Spray Chamber: For more realistic corrosion testing, cyclic chambers alternate between salt spray, high humidity, temperature cycling, and dry airflow. Accuracy is ±0.5°C and ±2% RH, with programmable cycles including ¾‑h spray, 2‑h dry-air purge, and 3¼‑h soak. This method identifies coating weaknesses such as blistering, cracking, and scribe creep more effectively. It is commonly used in automotive, military, and high-reliability component testing.
SO₂ Corrosion Test Chamber: Designed for sulfur-contaminated industrial environments, these chambers combine salt spray, SO₂ gas, temperature, and humidity control. Flowmeters and solenoid valves introduce SO₂ uniformly, while NaOH tanks neutralize excess gas. Temperature and humidity are maintained at ±1°C and ±3% RH, respectively. This setup is ideal for power plants, ports, and automotive components exposed to sulfur-containing atmospheres.
