What's the thermal aging principle? I

Mar 17, 2020

Thermal aging is more common in low-voltage electrical appliances. The mechanism is that under the action of temperature, certain resonance gradients in the insulating material escape, internal oxidative decomposition, thermal cracking, decomposition, and molecular changes such as continued polymerization of the molecular chain, gradually losing insulation performance.

Short-term exposure at high temperatures will drive off volatiles such as moisture, solvents or plasticizers, reduce molding stress, promote curing of thermoset plastics, and may cause some changes in the color of the plastic or colorant. The loss or progress of the polymerization reaction should be expected to have additional shrinkage.

And many other types of plastics become soft and sticky due to the adsorption of volatile plasticizers or due to the destruction of polymers.

Thermal aging conditions:

Under normal pressure, the temperature is determined according to the specific conditions
