What is UV testing?

UV test is mainly the use of ultraviolet aging test chamber to simulate the UV spectrum in the sunlight, by controlling the ultraviolet fluorescent lamp irradiation intensity and humidity environment and other conditions, in just a few days or weeks to simulate the material in the outdoor months or even years of damage. Because the lamp can effectively simulate the ultraviolet short-wave segment of sunlight, and its spectral power distribution cutoff point can also be precisely controlled, it can match the solar spectrum, to achieve the purpose of rapid aging. Unlike other types of lamps, the UV lamp's spectrum does not change with time and has inherent spectral stability, which improves the repeatability of the test results and makes the test results more reliable.

In general, first-order photochemical reactions are not sensitive to temperature changes, however, as the temperature increases, the reaction speeds up. Therefore, in the process of UV exposure test, temperature control is very important, and it is more important to match the test temperature used in the accelerated test with the highest temperature encountered in the practical application of the material. The temperature setting of the UV in the device can be anywhere from 55 °C to 85 °C, depending on the illuminance level and indoor ambient temperature. With the increase of temperature, the destructive force of moisture on the material will increase dramatically.

Therefore, in the process of humid exposure, temperature control is the most basic requirement. Furthermore, to produce an acceleration effect, it is necessary to maintain a high temperature environment during the wet exposure process. The condensation process temperature can be set at any point from 45 °C to 65 °C in the equipment. Therefore, accurate temperature control is essential for the accuracy and reliability of test results.

Why do UV tests?

Some outdoor products are exposed to sunlight for a long time, so it is crucial to test the yellowing resistance and aging resistance of the products. In order to understand the service life of the product outdoors, it is necessary to conduct UV aging test simulation test, that is, UV test. Since the intensity of the UV test conducted in the laboratory is greater than the intensity of outdoor light, the UV aging test can shorten the test time of the staff, so as to obtain the outdoor service life of the product in a short time.

One of the main advantages of UV testing is that it can simulate the destruction of materials in a more realistic outdoor humid environment. Statistics show that when materials are placed outdoors, they are frequently subjected to moisture for at least 12 hours a day. This wet effect is mostly manifested in the form of condensation, so in the UV test aging test, we can use a special condensation principle to simulate the outdoor humid environment.
