GWP And LIB‘ Technology Breakthrough in The Field Of Environmental Chamber

Feb 11, 2025

In recent years, the problem of global climate change has become increasingly serious, and greenhouse gas emissions have become the focus of international attention. To address this challenge, the European Union region has proposed the concept of "Global Warming Potential" (GWP), which aims to quantify the environmental impact of different greenhouse gases and promote the development of greener alternative technologies. With the popularity of the standard, the environmental test chamber industry has been greatly affected, only products that meet the requirements of the GWP are admitted to the EU market.

The GWP value is a measure of a gas's contribution to the warming of the planet over a given period of time, usually 100 years, and is calculated by comparing the greenhouse effect of a gas to that of carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is assigned a GWP of 1, while other greenhouse gases, such as freon gases, have a higher GWP. This means that a gas with a higher GWP has a greater impact on climate change.

Legislation to require a GWP of no more than 1500 for industrial gases after the 2019 Climate Summit (Policy No. EU2019/1937) and a GWP of no more than 150 for all products entering the EU after January 1, 2025 (Policy No. (EU) 2024/537).

The introduction of GWP values has had a profound impact on the refrigeration industry. Traditional refrigerants, such as R-22 and R-134a, have a higher GWP and a greater impact on global warming. Under the promotion of EU policy, these refrigerants are gradually phased out. Manufacturers are forced to find alternatives, but low GWP refrigerants often face problems such as inefficiency, high cost or technical complexity.

In this context, the innovation of refrigeration technology has become the key to the development of the industry. In order to meet the stringent requirements of the European Union for GWP values, many refrigeration equipment companies have begun to accelerate the development of new environmentally friendly refrigerants and add more energy saving and environmental protection technologies to the equipment design. At the same time, the energy efficiency, performance, and cost of refrigeration equipment are also facing serious challenges. How to maintain efficient cooling effect at the same time, reduce the negative impact on the environment, has become an issue that the industry must solve.

In the face of the European Union's high standard of GWP value requirements, LIB Industry as a pioneer in the refrigeration equipment industry, with its strong technical research and development capabilities, successfully broke through the bottleneck of traditional refrigeration technology, launched new environmental test chambers that meets the European Union's GWP value requirements.

Through this technological breakthrough, LIB has successfully used the new refrigeration technology on environmental test equipment to meet the requirements of GWP below 150, becoming one of the first test equipment industry practitioners to respond to this call.

In the future, it will continue to be committed to the research and development and innovation of refrigeration technology, not only to meet the existing environmental standards, but also to layout in advance of new regulations and new market needs that may emerge in the future.
